Animal Nutrition & Feed

At present there are only eight species of mammals and one reptile specie that are housed in the zoo. They are provided with the balanced diet and every attempt is made to fulfill the nutritional requirement of the animals as per their condition. Depending on the specific requirement of the animal, the food is modified basis the recommendations made by the veterinary officer. To supplement the nutrients, the vitamins and minerals are added in the feed and mineral licks are also provided to the animals.
The feed for animals are procured through tender process. Fresh stocks are received on daily or weekly basis where as in case of carnivores ante mortem inspection is performed and fit animal is brought to slaughter to the slaughter house and after slaughter a post mortem inspection is carried out by wildlife veterinary surgeon before supplying to the animals by the feed supply vehicle. The Senior Veterinary Officers (zoo & safari) provided veterinary services to the zoo during the year.
