BEAR SAFARI

Sloth Bear (Melursus ursinus)

Covering an are of 50 Acre The bear safari harbours four Sloth bears (Melrus ursinus), commonly called as Bhalu/ Reech in hindi, of which 2 are male and the other 2 are female.

Bears are widely distributed from Himalayan foothills to the coastal plains. Being omnivorous they relish mostly on fruits, so they like the habitats of scrub-land, grass-land & fruit bearing tree (mostly Mahua) and the same prevails in the bear safari.

The safari is covered and fenced by 5.5m high chain-link fence. Artificially developed two water bodies a hillock, and a cave will allure them. The Bear Kraal, established, will be a shelter space for the bears and for feeding them too.

A 2.4km visitors movement path is shaped to gaze the bears in their natural habitat. Fourteen-seater covered, battery operated vehicle to rove around within the safari. An entry-cum-exit gate along with an extra emergency exit gate facility.

One night-shelter and one ‘Kraal’ is also developed to feed & upkeep the bears in their safari.
